The History of the La Canada Town Center

la canada town center

More than a decade ago the Community of La Canada was divided over plans to develop a Town Center.  Sports Chalet owner Norbert Olberz, for over three decades, purchased over thirty single-family homes between Foothill Boulevard and the 210 Freeway.  He had a vision of a thriving La Canada Town Center, and his dream was to make it happen. In the late 1990’s, believing his concept was moving forward, he even vacated the single-family homes, plans were submitted, meetings were held, and nothing was accomplished.

Time passed and La Canada established a Downtown Village Plan to create a cohesive look and feel for downtown development.  This plan has impacted any Realtor attempting to lease or sell commercial property on Foothill. La Canada may have grown weary of the ongoing disputes, leading to the approval and development of a plan.

Was the La Canada Town Center worth the wait?  The new traffic signals have bottled up traffic on Foothill and Angeles Crest.  The center is not fully occupied, and parking is problematic.
