What is a pied-a-terre?

What is a pied-a-terre? According to Wikipedia a pied-à-terre is a small living unit usually located in a large city some distance from an individual’s primary residence. It may be an apartment, flat, or condominium. The term pied-à-terre implies usage as a temporary second residence, either for part of the year or part of the work week, by a person of some means.

I recently listed a Studio City pied-à-terre, owned by Actor – Producer David Anderson (aka Austin). He is the grandson of George Irving, a prominent actor-director. In 2002, he purchased his pied-à-terre, a foreclosure in complete disrepair. With little regard for cost, he remodeled with a new floorplan, kitchen, bath, windows, and wood floors. Not content, he spent another $10,000 installing private security surveillance to watch his 1965 Shelby Cobra. Once David had everything to his satisfaction, he returned home for a visit and, as luck would have it met his future wife. They are now building their dream home on one of Minnesota’s lakes.
