LOS ANGELES AND ADJACENT PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS: Growing up in Glendale, I dreamed of having my own swimming pool. I imagined summer days spent diving, splashing, and floating in the backyard. But since my family didn’t have one, we made the most of the public pools nearby. Verdugo Park pool in Glendale was our favorite spot—it was lively, fun, and close to home. Sadly, it’s no longer around. Fortunately, we had other options. We often visited the Glendale YWCA pool and the Griffith Park pool. Both offered a refreshing escape during the hot summer months.
