The History of the La Canada Town Center

More than a decade ago the Community of La Canada was divided over plans to develop a Town Center.  For over three decades, Sports Chalet owner, Norbert Olberz purchased over  thirty single family homes between Foothill Boulevard and the 210 Freeway.  He had a vision of a thriving town center and it was his dream to make it happen. In the late 1990’s believing his Town Center concept was moving forward he even vacated the single family homes, plans were submitted, meetings were held and nothing was accomplished.

Time passed and La Canada established a Downtown Village Plan intended to create a cohesive look and feel for downtown  development.  Any Realtor trying to lease or sell commercial property on Foothill has been impacted by this plan.  Perhaps La Canada was tired of squabbling and ultimately a plan for the Town Center was approved and developed.

Was the La Canada Town Center worth the wait?  The new traffic signals have bottled up traffic on Foothill and Angeles Crest.  The center is not fully occupied and parking is problematic.
