Last month, my daughters and I took a dream vacation. As many of you know, I love earning and using mileage points. Although I adore Italy, I wanted to avoid the crowds during the Jubilee in Rome. Instead, we aimed for a peaceful beach getaway. After lots of research, we chose San Mazzaro Sea Palace in Taormina, Italy — part of The Leading Hotels of the World.
The hotel was pricey, but thankfully, we covered most of our stay with mileage points. We used a combination of American Express, Delta, and Chase points. Next, we booked Delta One tickets entirely with points. Our route: Los Angeles to New York, then New York to Catania. Delta One was an incredible experience. From curbside drop-off, we walked straight to check-in, breezed through Delta’s private security, and relaxed in the lounge.
Taormina, the first stop on our trip, was absolutely stunning. We spent most days lounging on the beach or by the pool. Evenings were for dinners and shopping in town. We stayed just over a week and loved every minute. Afterward, we flew from Catania to Florence and checked into Hotel Lungarno — again, using points. In Florence, we ate amazing food, shopped the designer outlets, and took a one-day wine tasting tour through Tuscany.
It truly was the trip of a lifetime. Meanwhile, back home, everything ran smoothly thanks to Kris’s excellent real estate skills. We stayed in close contact, and I felt confident that everything was handled efficiently during my time away.
