Best Ways to Avoid a Break-in

Robberies are common in my La Canada neighborhood. So, what are the best ways to avoid a break-in?

Best Ways to Avoid a Break-in

First, never answer your front door to strangers. Install an alarm system, as burglars are likelier to target properties without one. Additionally, get a big dog or two. When you are out of town, have someone collect your mail, newspapers, and anything else left on the front porch. Always let your neighbors know when you are going out of town so they can be an extra set of eyes.

Trim bushes and maintain good sight lines to windows and doors to prevent burglars from being concealed. Invest in solid and sturdy doors with deadbolt locks and reinforced metal frames.

Install automatic outdoor lights or motion-sensor lights to brighten your property, as well-lit exteriors deter burglaries. Install security cameras, either traditional cameras or newer options like smart doorbell cameras. Cameras not only aid in solving crimes but also act as a deterrent during burglars’ scouting.

By addressing these signs and taking appropriate measures, you can enhance the security of your home and reduce the risk of a break-in. Keep in mind that a combination of these strategies is often more effective in deterring burglars.
