Raised Container Gardening Beds – Staying Productive During a Pandemic

I don’t know about you, but after organizing one linen closet and my kitchen pantry, I quickly became bored with those domestic chores. Staying productive during a pandemic is more challenging than you think. We prepared more home-cooked meals. We became more careful about what we ate. But after months of selling Los Angeles real estate in a very different way, I needed something positive to occupy my free time. There were no more leisurely brunches with friends; vacations were canceled. I’ve been supporting our La Canada Farmer’s Market for years, and the quantity of items I buy is insane. I decided to grow some of my own…. just to cut down on the sheer volume of what I was bringing back and forth to the car. With COVID, ingress and egress at our Farmer’s Market was limited. We consulted with our gardener, and he built raised container gardening beds.

I cook for my two German shepherds. They get turkey, zucchini, and squash with fresh parsley. I am growing the vegetables, so I don’t have to transport them from Farmer’s Market. We grow fresh herbs, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, and vegetables. My gardener did the major work, and we are just taking care of the upkeep.

With so little happening during COVID, it’s rewarding to check our raised container gardening beds, note the growth of the cucumbers, and count the new strawberries. What are you doing to stay productive during a pandemic?

I envy your garden. I do not have much of a green thumb myself. My hobby has been puzzles . I have been doing Christmas scenes and framing them to use as decor and gifts around the holidays
